Peanut Butter Brownies - Layered Yumminess!
Is it making you hungry?

Here is how it happened:
1 - bag PB Cookie mix
1 - Betty Crocker 8x8 Brownie mix
Hot Fudge & Ice Cream for later
Mix cookies according to package directions & spread in the bottom of an 9x13 greased glass pan.
Mix the brownies according to the box mix.  Then spread over the top of the cookie mixture.
Bake 375 for 35 minutes.
Cut into squares - layer two on top of each other - top with one or two scoops of your favorite ice cream - then spoon warmed hot fudge over the top.
The combo was perfect - salty PB - cold  Ice Cream - moist warm brownie - dry crumbly PB cookie- YUMMY!!  I've also tried this with choc chip cookies and it is equally good!

Leopard Print Boots - YES PLEASE

There are 2 things in the world of fashion I simply adore:
1. Boots
2. Animal Print
Much to my delight JCPenney had these incredible boots on sale last week!
They're perfect!  5" heel, black & gray (two colors I wear to work all week long), soft and velvety... They are adorable!  Normally I don't like to pay much for shoes so this was definitely a splurge for me - even after a $10 off coupon and the remainder of a gift card I spent $23.  All in all I can live with $23 out of pocket for these ladies.  Now I just need the weather in Ohio to cool off so I can wear them!!

Now for a REAL Bargain!!

I scored these girls for $1 (YES 1 BUCK) at a Thrift Store last weekend.  Anne Klein pointy toe pumps - too cute (check out the animal print pillows - I ♥ them)!
Unfortunately they won't fit my big feet so my little sister will get the pleasure of owning them!

Frames FINALLY!

FRAMES FOLLOW-UP
Remember this post from way way long ago?
These frames I fell in love with the first time I saw them..
In the last post I struggled with what to put in the made over frames.  Back at Christmas I purchased a frame for a family pic that came with 3 black & white prints.  Last week it struck me to use the b&w's in the frames!!
What do you think of my $1.99 spray painted frame with my freebie black & white print?
The second is definitely my favorite!
Then the post about my inspiration to a frame wall.  I took the frames and just one color didn't seem enough.
So I used blue to compliment our current color scheme and a gloss to match the wall color.  Here is a link to the rooms journey (I just love to change it up!)

Button Button who has the button?

I constantly see cute crafts made or accessorized with buttons, but can't bring myself to pay the price for buttons.  Sometimes a cute button would just do the trick.  I was wondering around good ole Walmart tonight looking at spools of ribbon when my eyes drifted downward onto glorious buttons!!
Cute little button containers for .97 each!!  Plus check out the lids - GIANT BUTTONS!
So many sweet little buttons inside these cute little containers (did I mention .97 each?!)
Someday I hope to have a collection like my Grandma - a old canning jar filled with a masterpiece of buttons.
Wal-mart has white, black, green and blue.

Tasty Tuesday!!

Tasty Tuesday - Mexican Rice to go with last weeks Enchilada's

Here is what you'll need:
2 packs Sazon Goya
1 1/2 cup long grain rice
3 or 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/3 onion finely chopped
3 cups chicken broth
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup frozen peas
Juice of lime

Soak rice in a bowl of hot water for 15 minutes. Drain and rinse in a strainer until the water runs clear. Let the rice continue to drain for 10 minutes.

Heat oil in heavy skillet. When hot, add the rice, stirring until the rice starts to become a golden color. Add the chopped onion and continue frying until the onion is clear and the rice a golden brown. Add chopped garlic and cook one minute longer. Add the chicken broth and 1 package of the Sazon powder and the peas.
Let come to a full simmer, and then turn down to low, cover and let cook until all the liquid is absorbed. (about 20 minutes) Do not stir. Right before the liquid is absorbed, add the last package of anchiote and the lime juice. Stir briefly.

Remove from burner and let stand a five minutes before serving.

Weekend Craft

Looking for a super simple yet fun craft this weekend?

I absolutely LUV these necklaces!  They are so simple to make and for someone with nickel or metal sensitivity they're perfect!  Also a great way to re-use/re-cycle an old t-shirt!
All you need is an old t-shirt and a pair of scissors!
Lay the shirt flat and cut strips (I cut them about 1/2 in wide).
Stretch each strip out as far as you can (it will naturally form a yarn like rope).  For a thicker necklace cut more strips (for a bracelet I use 3 strips - 2 for the bracelet and one for the knot)
Continue to wrap the knot rope over the bracelet/necklace until you only have a small piece left - then tuck the ends under the loops you have just made to secure your knot.
There are lots of options for this necklace!  This pink one I braided some of my ropes and added them in.  I also made a t-shirt swirl flower with rhinestones and sewed it onto the necklace knot.
This one is a simple pink necklace that I clipped one of my  homemade leather flowers onto (hair clip flower fit perfectly into the knots!
This one was made from a green tie dye t-shirt.
The possibilities are endless!!

Bench Makeover

Time for another super simple makeover!

This bench was originally a 'curbside freebie' my Dad's Girlfriend found one day.  Then it ended up at my garage sale where I bought it.  When we lived in our turn of the century home it fit the decor nicely and we used it as a window seat.  Since we've moved to our current home it has been sitting in our storage room.
I really thought we'd use it in one of our room makeovers but I've not found the right 'fit' in our home for this bench.  Either way it really deserved a makeover...
Since the fabric is in perfect condition - imagine something white staying white?  It's perfect!  The only thing I did with this bench was to remove the seat.  Then I primed the wood with Krylon Primer then used 3 cans of Krylon Ivory Spray paint to give it the new look.

I think it turned out great!  It wasn't bad before but now she's ready for a new home!
She'll be for sale at ReHab Fab This Fall!

Tasty Tuesday!!

Ready for another Tasty Tuesday??

This is one of my families favorite meals!
Roast Beef Enchilada's made with Sazon Goya

It all starts with a roast - usually I use about a 2lb Roast (any type you like will work).  I put it in the Crock Pot and sprinkle 1 packet of Sazon Goya over top with 1/2 C water.  Cook on low 8-9 hours - the roast should fall apart when its done.

What is Sazon Goya?  It's SO yummy!  The only place I've found it is amazon.com or ebay.com.  They are theses little packets of flavoring.  You know the yummy orange rice you can get at Authentic Mexican Restaurants?  I asked a co-worker once how they do it and this is what she suggested I use  (I'll share a recipe next Tuesday for the rice we make!)
Now that your roast is falling a part you'll need:
One can fat free re fried beans
1 C shredded cheese
10 flour tortilla shells

Spread beans on the tortilla shell, sprinkle with cheese and some of your yummy meat (this is a great time to get the kids to help!!
Grease a 9x13 baking dish and preheat oven to 350.
Roll filled shell and place in pan
Once all shells are filled spread one jar of cheese or enchilada sauce or even spaghetti sauce works great!  Then sprinkle with more cheese. Bake 350 for 30 min
I love to top mine with garden tomatoes and sour cream - use your taste buds to figure out what you like best!
Come back next Tuesday for the most yummy Mexican Rice Recipe and don't forget to get some Sazon Goya!!

Bedroom Makeover

My daughter chose to makeover a room for her 4H project this summer.  She's getting older and needed her own room - we have 2 bedrooms in our home we've put on the backburner as far as updating went.  The one had drywall hung but had not been 'mudded' so that was a new experience but thanks for an experienced friend it turned out great. The second room was covered in paneling - that of course we painted.

Here is the BEFORE (loving the walls and carpeting? Me either):
After we first moved in and painted (Much better but not for a girly girl)
Add a little purple and it's a girly girl room now!
The room was filled with the ugly 'kanga' carpet - so with the help of my Father we laid new carpet - looks so much better!  You can sorta see it in this pic - a dark gray/black mixture - BIG change!
These two side tables were mine when I was her age.  I found one in my Dad's front yard - freecycling and my Mom had the other and again they are reunited!  The lamp was one of my first make-overs - picked it up at Goodwill and gave it a new look.
The daybed I got from a co-worker - we used to have an employee sale electronic bulletin board.  The letters came from Hobby Lobby 50% off - we painted them purple.  The flower hangers came from Goodwill .59 each and a coat of paint.  Pillows from Menards ($3 each) and Dollar General ($5 each).  Bedspread found on clearance at Walmart for $14!)
$5.99 for a valance from JCP.com
This solid wood desk & chair was a perfect fit for this cubby!  Found it at Goodwill (brand new) $9.99!!  (she wanted to keep the wood finish - I would have painted it of course).
A few little makeovers and real rabbit fur (a souviner from a school field trip)
Finally the closet doesn't have a door and we couldn't find a curtain that she liked.  We ended up with this fabric shower curtain & hooks from Dollar General on clearance for $5!!
She repainted her dresser all by herself (missed a couple knobs getting black and not sure why one is all together missing...)  We're 'fixing' that.

We also replaced the ceiling fan with one with a light (low profile since the ceilings aren't 9 ft high).  All in all we spent around $250 (carpet included) to fix this room into something fun and fit for an little girl!

Gone.... Forever?

So did you think I was gone forever?  It's been SOOOooooo long since I've posted - not because I haven't been working up fabulous projects just because... Well, its SUMMER who wants to be stuck indoors on a PC - when you can be outside?  The kids were off school and between that and work I've been enjoying my summer away from the PC.

I have been busy with lots of projects - I've got lots to share so check back often!!

Here is a sneak peak of what is coming up - 11 year old girls bedroom makeover (this was her 4H project).
Everything for this makeover came off a sale/clearance rack or second hand somewhere. Stay tuned this week for more pics & all the details!!

Semi-Homemade Jello Pudding Pops!

It's time for another Tasty Tuesday!!

I spotted these Popsicle makers at Dollar Tree this weekend and immediately thought about how easy it would be to make healthy Popsicles with real fruit for my family.  Then I thought about Jello Pop's -anyone else remember them?  Frozen jello on a stick - yummy!!  I told my kids about them and about Pudding Pops - of course they wanted to make pudding pops first.

I picked up 2 of these 4-pop holders for $1 each at Dollar Tree.
Then I mixed one small package of instant pudding according to the instructions on the box.  Pour them immediately into the molds (pudding sets fast!).  Put them in the freezer overnight.  To pop them out of the mold I ran them under hot water for about 30 seconds and they came out perfectly!
Enjoy!!
I can't wait till we eat all these so I can make Jello Pops & Fruit pops with fresh fruit - YUMMY!
