Thrift Store Treasure Tuesday

I was looking for a fun lamp for Girly Girl #1's 4H Project 'Bedroom Make-over' - check out the before and after of this gem I found stuck up on a shelf at a local thrift store. (ignore the date on the pics)

The Lamp was $2.99.  I removed the shade & globe.  Then used painters tape to keep the black metal parts un-touched & put the cord in a baggie.  I used a can of Krylon Spray Primer on the lamp and shade.  Krylon Metallic Silver spray paint on the base/top & Krylon Rich Plum on the outside & inside of the shade.

All for about 8.50 we ended up with a super cute girly lamp!!

These cute little Love Birds Planters were at a new Thrift Store I came across called 'Penny Pinchers'

They were too adorable to pass up and I knew with a little bit of help they would make great pencil/treasure holders during our 2 Girly Girl Room Makeovers - Coming Summer 2011.

What a difference a coat of paint & glitter spray paint can make on old planters & what fun we'll have finding treasures to put in them!

I also found this fantastic dish for $.25!  I'm not sure what to do with it, but for $.25 I couldn't resist!  If you have a suggestion I'd love to hear it!

JCP Rocks my Closet

If you know me very well you know I absolutely LUV JCP & JCP.com.  I love fashion and putting clothing together this shoes and accessories!  I can't hardly walk in less than a 4" heel without feeling completely awkward!  While we were on our x-pedition to St Mary's Ohio we stopped at JCPenney.  I always check the clearance racks first.  Our original total (before my coupon & clearance pricing) was 262.00.  You'll have to scroll down to see what my final total was (its def worth the wait!)

I spent all winter searching for a new sweater dress to wear with leggings (I know not everyone is a legging fan, but I love feeling like I'm wearing jammies all day long!) I never did find a new dress this winter so today was really x-citing!

I tried to take pics of myself in all of these, but I felt ridiculous and the pics weren't coming out like I'd like so I gave up and just took normal pics.

First the Black Sweater Dress I've been looking for, R&K Dress - Originally $60 (I paid 10.17)

Then this ALYX Cowlneck Sweater dress I have been eying online for quite awhile but never brought myself to pay the 

$70 original price tag (I paid 11.87)

Final Dress - another that I have looked at but assumed it wouldn't handle my short curvy frame. By Bisou Bisou (one of my fav brands) 

Originally $60 (I paid 10.17). 

2 Tank tops for summer.

Originally 14.00 each - I paid 3.57 each

Finally for me a pretty pink lacy looking top that will be cute as can be over a shell or tank with some dark jeans or pencil skirt.  

Originally 44.00 - I paid 2.52

My final cost $41.87 for 3 tops & 3 dresses

Road Trip!!

It's a cloudy Sunday afternoon and there is this spot in St Mary's Ohio I have been wanting to shop.  I saw this buffet cabinet on a ad they posted on Craigslist.com. It was listed for $40. We piled in the van and went for a drive (with the help of 'Betty' my pretty purple GPS).  We found www.grandlakemoving.com and the buffet/cabinet was as ugly as I had anticipated! 
PLUS they had already moved the price down to $30! 

Stay tuned for what this guy will look like when I am finished. 

While we were there my husband spotted this unique book shelf for $10!

And the girls spotted these (probably some young girls badge collection)

Garage Sale Find

$1.00 Garage Sale Find!

This lil' lady had a rough life - I am sure she was much loved and needed some TLC to brighten her up.  I often wonder if furniture could talk, what would it say... What may have been in that drawer - a love note?  a Bible filled with the greatest love story ever told? crayons, pencils, magazines, a child's most treasured possession?

 A good coat of primer to get her ready, then most of her got a 'watermelon' paint job - except for her drawer.  The treasure drawer a place for love notes, secrets and childhood treasures!  Check out the after!

She is ready to be loved and treasured once again - I even kept the original drawer pull with its lingering stories of little hands who would have pulled on that knob open laughter, smiles, treasures galore!

A Perfect Pair

This perfect pair of old wood chairs were sitting together at a local used furniture store.  They were only $10 (for both) and I couldn't resist the fun dressing up Mr & Mrs Chair.  I'm sure they were quite a pair in their glory days...

First I removed the seats from both chairs, sprayed primed both chairs, then gave each one an individual look.  He got a black and white suit and tie type make-over and for her some bright fun girly girl colors!

But then I had a different idea for her - she didn't feel like a pink and purple girl - she deserved some 70's tye-dye fun!

Much much better - she is a doll and deserved to feel like one ;-)

Jackpot!

I went to visit my sister and family a few weekends ago and of course we hit a local Goodwill.

Look what I found!

This great little bench was only 2.99!  Then it was time to decide what she would become - how I would transform her into something fabulous.... Hmmmm....  I had some primer and black spray paint left over from a prior make-over...  Then time for my favorite part - FABRIC - I could get lost for hours in Hobby Lobby, JoAnne's or Michaels, even Wal-Marts little fabric isle calls my name when I pass by...

I needed something bright and fun since her final destination would be in our girly girl bedroom make-over.  TA DA!
